Danai Gurira has been named Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women at the Global Citizen Festival Mandela 100, Johannesburg, lending her support to gender equality and women's rights.

The Walking Dead star joins fellow ambassadors Anne Hathaway and Emma Watson, and commented 'I am honoured to join the UN Women family today. My passion for women and girls has been my focus in the narratives I create as well as the roles I have been able to play. I have always sought to push the boundaries and tell the stories of those who are often marginalised and unheard'.
